Ever wish you had more time in the day? Well, this year, you have a whole extra day! While most people dream of days where they can relax and unwind, stress and worry-free, sometimes that isn’t quite what happens.

For you, disasters may be a freak accident, for us at SERVPRO of Fall River, however, it’s just another day at the office. And because we know disasters don’t take days off (not even when the year gives them an extra day!) we don’t either. Leap years won’t change that.

Your Nose Knows - Fall River 02720

2/3/2020 (Permalink)

Osmophobia is the fear of bad smells. So if you’ve ever been in a room you couldn’t get out of with a horrible stench, chances are you’ve felt attacked by the odor in the air. While the smell is creeping in and taking over the room, your first inclination is to get out! But what if that room happens to be your home or office and you can’t exactly “run away” from the smell?

That’s when you decide to fight back.

Not just by lighting a candle or plugging in a diffuser, some smells need to be kicked out, not masked!

This is why SERVPRO of Fall River offers deodorization services on top of the many clean-up and restoration services we provide. Not only do we help you get to the bottom of the smell, or the top if it’s coming from the attic, we’ll also be there to help guide you and your nose back to the clean and fresh air that your nose knows it needs. We also offer air duct cleaning services to ensure you’re breathing better and fresher with every whiff you take!

If you’re smelling something that shouldn’t be, give our office at SERVPRO of Fall River a call and we’d be happy to help!

Something Smells... Smelly

1/8/2020 (Permalink)

In our experience, smells are narrowed down to two basic categories: good smells, and bad smells. Good smells are the ones that come from candles, essential oils, perfumes, and our favorite foods. Bad smells, on the other hand, can come from anything such as smoke, urine and feces, rodent droppings, or worse, rodent decay, or even worse, human decay, or even worse…

Okay, you get it. Things that smell bad, smell… well, bad!

And sometimes you need an extra nose to know where the smell is actually coming from. Thankfully, the technicians at SERVPRO of Fall River can help. Not only can we confirm if the smell you’re smelling is a very bad, no good, smelly smell. We can also help remove the odor with our advanced technological equipment such as air scrubbers, thermal foggers, and deodorization agents.

Not only does this help remove powerful odors, but these machines also help us remove airborne contaminants and control the air quality in a given room.

If something smells… smelly, give us at SERVPRO of Fall River a call, and we’ll see if we can sniff it out for you. As always, we’re Here to Help.

Make sure your home is in good condition before and after purchasing

Buying a house is easy and fun, right?

Buying and selling real estate can be fun I suppose, but it can also unearth a number of issues with the properties. Previous owners may have had pets that left stains on carpets, or were heavy smokers and there is staining and the smell is just lingering. SERVPRO of Fall River has partnered with many local Realtors to make sure that the homes being sold and purchased in our area are move in ready.

If you’re looking to sell your home and just want to have the carpets freshened up for the new owner, we can usually provide service with about a week notice. Maybe you just purchased a new home and you want to make sure the duct work is clean and allergen free, we can take care of that as well.

If you’re a real estate agent, keep us in mind for your clients’ needs. We offer many services, such as mold remediation and nicotine cleaning, to help your real estate transactions go off without a hitch.

How to tell if Your Hot Water Heater is going Bad

3/4/2019 (Permalink)

Practice Preventative Maintenance to keep your hot water heater in good working condition

Bad to the Bone

Hot water heaters will typically last you between 10-15 years. When internal components become corroded and mineral build up occurs, your heater can begin to leak. Without correction, this small leak can turn into something more serious – and you may find yourself with a basement full of water. Below are some telltale signs that your hot water heater is on its way out, and some simple maintenance you can do to prevent disaster.

  1. Check

Check for power if there is no hot water. While no hot water can be a sure sign that the water heater has failed, it could also mean the pilot light is out or the circuit breaker tripped.

  1. Examine

Examine the water that comes out of the hot faucet. If it appears rusty, this signals an upcoming failure of your water heater. Look for signs of muddy water or increased sediment in the water tank. Attach a hose to the drainage bib on the water heater, turn the unit off and drain it to examine its contents. Muddy water or increased sediment signals a potential failure of your water heater. When flushing the water heater, remember that the water that comes out of the hose bib at the front of the water heater is going to be extremely hot, as it will not be mixed with cold water. Use caution when flushing the water heater to avoid getting burned. Smell or taste the water. If the hot water has a metallic taste to it, this indicates that the water heater is close to breaking down.

  1. Listen

Pay attention to the noises your water heater makes. While there will be normal sounds as the water heats, loud cracks and pops indicate an interaction between the heating elements inside the heater and the scale and mineral deposits built up on them.

  1. Address

Take immediate action if you see leaking water around the water heater where none has leaked before. Disconnect the electricity or turn off the gas to the unit and let the water cool down before attempting to remove and replace the water heater. Leaking water indicates an internal failure in the water heater.

Donation Drive- Fall River, MA 02724

1/15/2019 (Permalink)

SERVPRO helping local fire victims by becoming a drop off location.

As a community, we help each other out. Whether it be lending sugar to our neighbor or giving the elderly woman downstairs a ride to her doctor’s appointment. When disaster strikes however, that’s when it seems that we really come together! Recently there was a large apartment complex fire that occurred in Fall River. Over 80 people were displaced and had nothing but the clothes on their backs. With no building left to rebuild, there wasn’t much for us here at SERVPRO of Fall River to do. We wanted to still lend a hand, so we decided that we would offer our location as a donation drop off site.

Only two days into doing so, we had such an outpouring of support! A large number of items were brought to us that the displaced families were in desperate need of. Families, businesses and organizations alike donated items such as toiletries, toys, diapers, gift cards, clothing and much more. They were thinking about what it is that they use in their everyday routine, and were dropping them off by the car and truck full! It was a beautiful sight and a great feeling to see that the community was coming together to help.

As the need continues, we are still receiving calls and emails on how people can help. SERVPRO of Fall River, many other businesses, yes the community as a whole is making sure that these victims are not going through this alone. May we all continue to do our part to make sure the victims of this tragedy see a light at the end of the tunnel and may they have comfort in knowing that we are all here to help them in their time of need.
